Pregnancy Massage

I first studied pregnancy massage back in the UK in 2012. I immediately loved working with pregnant mamas and supporting them on their beautiful journeys. When I had my first baby in 2016 my apprecaition for pregnancy massage deepened even more. I remember the feeling of complete relaxation and physical relief that my body so needed and deserved. I love being able to offer that to other mamas through my work!

It is such  a pleasure to work with a massage table that is deigned and made specifically to support mama and her growing bump.

Pheonix Pregnancy Massage Table

This purpose designed massage table provides the ultimate comfort and support during pregnancy. The padded inserts are removed to reveal a sling that gives complete support to your growing baby bump. This enables you to enjoy the experience of lying on your front and takes the strain off your lower back. This position is so good for a thorough back and shoulder massage, accessing all the places that store tension during pregnancy.

The Benefits of Pregnancy Massage

1. Reduces Swelling

When your feet, legs, and hands start swelling during pregnancy, it is often caused by reduced circulation and increased pressure on the major blood vessels. Massage can help stimulate the soft tissue, move the extra fluid, and reduce the swelling, leaving you feeling more comfortable.

2. Relieves Lower Back Pain

Pregnancy massage helps ease lower back pain including sciatic nerve pain by addressing the tight muscles in the affected area. Massage increases blood flow and helps release the tension. It also relieves aches and pains that can occur during pregnancy

3. Improves Sleep

Getting good quality sleep can become harder as your pregnancy progresses. Pregnancy massage relaxes the nervous system and releases feel good hormones; serotonin and melatonin. This helps regulate sleep rhythms and improves the quality of sleep which promotes a good overall effect on the body.

4. Lowers stress and anxiety levels.

Cortisol is referred to as the stress hormone. When a pregnant woman is introduced to massage therapy as part of prenatal care, the level of cortisol in her body is reduced significantly. This lets her experience those good hormones that have been known to improve mood, vitality and immunity.

5. Relieves Pain Naturally

Pregnancy massage offers a natural, safe, drug-free alternative for pain relief. This is beneficial since the use of medications is limited during pregnancy for the safety of your baby. The increased blood flow to your tissues and the relaxation your body will experience during and after a session can significantly alleviate many of the common discomforts of pregnancy.

6. Reduces the baby's stress hormones.

Apart from helping the pregnant mother, massage also lowers the stress hormones in the baby. Research has shown that massage plays a vital factor in raising the baby's cortisol levels, even if they are still inside their mother's womb. Mothers aren't the only ones who receive the health benefits of pregnancy massage!

7. Prepares Your Body for Labor and Birth

Prenatal Massage can help you have an easier delivery, not only because it can reduce your overall stress levels, but also because of how well it can keep your muscles toned and relaxed in advance of the start of labor. Studies show that women reportedly had shorter hospital stays, shorter labors and less incidence of post-natal depression when receiving massages.
